Elderly Woman Reported Missing in Newark

NEWARK, N.J. — The Newark Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 63-year-old Benedette Onyema, who was reported missing on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Onyema was last seen around 2 p.m. on Monday, January 6, in the 300 block of New Street.

She is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a beige fur coat, black pants, and black Puma sneakers.

Her family reports that she has no known physical or mental health issues.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. urges anyone with information to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All tips remain confidential and may be eligible for a reward.

The search for Benedette Onyema continues as concerns grow over her safety.
