Police Identify Man Found Dead in Queens Apartment

QUEENS, N.Y. — A 55-year-old man was found dead in a Queens apartment on Tuesday evening, prompting an active police investigation.

Authorities identified the deceased as Jose Portillo, of 138-16 Jewel Avenue.

Police responded to a 911 call around 5 p.m. reporting an unresponsive male inside an apartment at 137-17 70th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Portillo unconscious and unresponsive.

Emergency medical services pronounced Portillo dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.

The circumstances surrounding Portillo’s death remain unclear as authorities continue their investigation.
