Beloved family dog stolen from Newark yard, suspect caught on camera

NEWARK, NJ — A Newark resident is searching for answers after her Shih Tzu poodle mix was stolen from her front yard on Norfolk Street Saturday afternoon.

The theft occurred around 3:30 p.m. when the dog was let out to roam near the home in the 100 block of Norfolk Street. Surveillance footage shows a man taking the dog and walking south on Norfolk Street. The suspect is described as wearing a black coat, black pants, and a black hat at the time of the incident.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is urging anyone who can identify the suspect or provide information to call the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips may also be submitted anonymously through the Newark Police Division’s website, and all information is confidential and may lead to a reward.
