CHESAPEAKE, Va. — In response to freezing overnight temperatures and anticipated icy road conditions, the City of Chesapeake announced delayed openings and closures for Thursday, January 23.

City offices and facilities will open at 11 a.m. on Thursday, while all courts will remain closed for the entire day. Trash collection is set to resume but will be delayed, with residents urged to leave their bins at the curb until collected.

Public Works crews are working through the night to treat roads, but officials warn that slushy conditions from recent precipitation are likely to refreeze, creating dangerous driving conditions during the morning commute.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, particularly on untreated roadways and bridges. Officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel where possible to reduce risks of accidents.
