Virginia Lottery player shocked by $342K Cash 5 jackpot win

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Rodney Dawes needed a second look at his ticket before realizing he had won the $342,862 jackpot in the January 6 Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing.

Dawes matched all five numbers—1, 13, 20, 21, and 32—on a ticket purchased online using Easy Pick, allowing the computer to randomly generate his numbers.

Cash 5 with EZ Match is a rolling jackpot game with a starting prize of $200,000. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,221,759.

Newport News, where Dawes resides, received more than $39.7 million in Virginia Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In total, the Lottery raised over $934 million for public schools in Fiscal Year 2024, accounting for approximately 10 percent of the state’s K-12 budget.

The Virginia Lottery encourages players to check their tickets and play responsibly while supporting education across the Commonwealth.
