NYPD searching for suspect in brutal animal abuse case in Manhattan

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted for a violent attack on a cat in the East Village, authorities announced.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m. near East 9th Street and Avenue D. Police said an unidentified individual struck a cat with a wooden stool, causing the animal to suffer a broken jaw and multiple fractured vertebrae in the neck and back.

The injured cat was taken to the Brooklyn Animal Welfare Coalition, where it was listed in stable condition. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Authorities described the suspect as a male wearing a black jacket, a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and gray sneakers.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is urged to contact the NYPD.
