8-year-old boy fatally shot in Newark; police seek suspect

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old boy in Newark and are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify those responsible.

The Newark Police Division is working alongside the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office in the ongoing investigation. Officials have not yet released details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including where it occurred or whether any suspects have been identified.

“We urge anyone with information about this incident to call 1-877-TIPS-4-EC,” the Newark Department of Public Safety said in a statement.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for what authorities called a heinous crime.

The investigation remains active, and officials are asking the public for assistance in locating the shooter.
