Florida man stole woman’s kitten in strong armed robbery on MLK Boulevard

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly robbing a woman near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Palm Avenue, taking a bag that contained her personal belongings and a one-month-old kitten, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

Officers identified the suspect as Benjamin Cummings, 33, and used video surveillance to track his movements. Detectives located an abandoned vehicle where the stolen items were found.

While investigating, officers saw the missing kitten emerge from underneath the vehicle and approach them. The victim later confirmed the kitten belonged to her, along with the stolen items inside the vehicle.

Authorities arrested Cummings on charges of robbery without a firearm or weapon. The kitten was safely returned to its owner.

Police credited their Intel Unit and detectives for the swift recovery, saying their efforts led to reuniting the stolen pet with its rightful owner.
