ICE arrests Haitian alien in Boston on child assault and battery charges

BOSTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Jean Yves Yves Ovilme, a 37-year-old Haitian national, on Jan. 22 in Boston on charges of assault and battery and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years or older.

Ovilme legally entered the United States on Nov. 10, 2023, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., but later violated the terms of his lawful admission, according to ICE officials.

The West Roxbury District Court in Boston arraigned Ovilme on Nov. 20, 2024, on the charges, and ICE issued an immigration detainer the same day. The state of Massachusetts did not honor the detainer and released Ovilme from custody on Jan. 3.

“Mr. Ovilme will have his day in court, but he stands accused of horribly victimizing a Massachusetts resident,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “Mr. Ovilme posed a significant danger to our Massachusetts neighborhoods, and we will not tolerate such threats to our New England community.”

Ovilme remains in ICE custody as he awaits further immigration proceedings.
