New Jersey cop rescues 11-year-old boy from fall through icy lake

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — A West Long Branch police officer pulled an 11-year-old boy from an icy lake Tuesday afternoon after the child fell through the ice at Franklin Lake, authorities said.

Police received a call at 2:41 p.m. reporting that a child had fallen into the water. Patrolman Dave Brosonski, the first officer to arrive and a highly trained water rescue specialist, found the boy stranded in the middle of the lake.

Without hesitation, Brosonski entered the frigid water and successfully brought the child to safety, the West Long Branch Police Department said in a statement.

The department expressed gratitude for Brosonski’s swift actions and recognized the West Long Branch Emergency Medical Services and the West Long Branch Fire Department for their response.

Chief Botti commended the teamwork that led to the boy’s rescue, crediting both first responders and community members who quickly alerted authorities.
