Fugitive arrested by U.S. Marshals in Atlantic City for Toms River drive-by shooting

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A Manchester man has been arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder in connection with a drive-by shooting at a Toms River apartment complex last month, authorities said.

Initially, Ocean County Jail records reported charges as murder. Mayweather no longer appears in the Ocean County Jail inmate roster online.

Javir Askew-Mayweather, 20, was taken into custody on February 4 at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, following a multi-agency investigation.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of January 13 at the Hope’s Crossing Apartment Complex on Vans Way. No injuries were reported, according to the Toms River Police Department.

The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and SWAT teams from Monmouth and Ocean counties.
