Police arrest D.C. man in connection to multiple gun crimes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a December shooting in Northeast D.C., as well as two additional firearm-related offenses, police announced Thursday.

Officers responded to a shooting on Dec. 8 around 9:25 p.m. in the 700 block of 19th Street NE, where they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation, police arrested Leon Jones Jr. of Northeast, D.C., on Feb. 5 and recovered a firearm. He has been charged with multiple offenses, including Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.

Detectives also linked Jones to two additional incidents: an endangerment with a firearm offense on Dec. 7 in the 500 block of 21st Street NE and an unlawful discharge of a firearm offense on Jan. 11 in the 1700 block of Benning Road NE.

The Dec. 8 shooting remains under investigation. Police are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with details is urged to call (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411.
