HUGHESVILLE, Md. — A Charles County woman couldn’t believe her eyes after discovering she had won a $50,000 top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game.

The Southern Maryland resident purchased her winning ticket at Jimmies Wine & Spirit in Hughesville and later scanned it at the same location, expecting nothing out of the ordinary.

“I thought it was wrong. I had to keep cleaning my glasses to make sure I was seeing the right message,” she said.

She frequently buys a $4 ticket featuring a mix of birth dates and random numbers. While she has won smaller prizes before, this was by far her biggest win. A government employee, she plans to use part of her winnings for a home improvement project and will save the rest.

“I was totally shocked. It is a real blessing,” she said.

Jimmies Wine & Spirit, located at 6270 Brandywine Road, will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
