Crofton couple wins $50K Powerball prize after routine Friday night stop

CROFTON, MD — A routine Friday night out turned into a life-changing moment for an Anne Arundel County couple after they unknowingly purchased a $50,000-winning Powerball ticket.

The couple, who regularly play both Powerball and Mega Millions, bought their ticket at the 7-Eleven on Defense Highway in Crofton on Jan. 10. They opted for a mix of quick-pick and chosen numbers, tucking their tickets away after leaving the store.

Nearly a week later, they discovered their $2 quick-pick ticket for the Jan. 13 drawing had matched four white balls and the red Powerball, securing the third-tier prize. They learned of their win after seeing a Facebook post revealing a winning ticket was sold at their local 7-Eleven.

The couple, both information technology specialists, recently claimed their prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and plan to use their winnings to pay bills.
