NEWPORT, Del. – An 18-year-old Wilmington man has been arrested and charged with murder following a deadly shooting last week at a Newport Exxon, Delaware State Police announced.

Officers responded to the Exxon station at 20 N. James Street at approximately 9:10 p.m. on February 5 after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Dinexvi Soriano Gonzalez suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Investigators determined that two groups had arranged to meet at the gas station for a fight. During the altercation, a suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds before fleeing in an unidentified vehicle.

Detectives identified Denny Cordero-Pion as the suspected gunman and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody in Wilmington on February 10 without incident.

Cordero-Pion has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned and remains in custody at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $2.1 million cash bond.
