U.S. Congressman Threatens Elon Musk With Violence, Now His Peers Are Moving to Censure Him

WASHINGTON — House Republicans introduced a resolution Wednesday to censure Representative Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) for allegedly inciting violence against Elon Musk, who is serving as a special government employee in the Trump administration.

The resolution, submitted by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), accuses Garcia of referring to Musk as a “d**k” during a House subcommittee hearing on February 12 and later escalating his rhetoric on CNN News Central. According to the resolution, Garcia called on Democratic colleagues to “bring actual weapons to this bar fight” against Musk.

“Well he is a dick, and I think he’s also harming the American public in an enormous way. What I think is really important and what the American public wants is for us to bring actual weapons to this bar fight,” Garcia said when asked whether personal attacks against Musk were an effective strategy. “This is an actual fight for democracy, for the future of this country, and it’s important to push back on the chairperson of this committee.”

The resolution states that Garcia’s comments amount to an attempt to incite violence against a federal employee and criticizes Democratic leadership for not condemning his remarks. “Violence, threats of violence, or attempts to incite violence against Federal employees should not be tolerated in the House of Representatives,” the resolution reads.

If passed, the measure would require Garcia to stand in the well of the House for a public reading of the censure. The move comes amid ongoing partisan tensions surrounding Musk’s role in the administration’s government efficiency efforts.
