UNION, N.J. — A Conrail freight train derailment near Union Station has forced NJ Transit to modify service on the Raritan Valley Line, with limited train operations and substitute bus service in place, officials said Wednesday.

Effective immediately and continuing until further notice, train service will run between High Bridge Station and Cranford Station. Passengers traveling beyond Cranford toward Newark Penn Station will be accommodated by substitute buses making stops at Roselle Park and Union stations.

NJ Transit said limited train service will continue to operate to and from High Bridge Station, but no trains will run between Cranford and Newark due to the derailment.

Authorities have not provided a timeline for restoring full service.
