One dead in Allegany County house fire as Maryland sees string of fatal blazes

LAVALE, Md. — A person was killed in a house fire in Allegany County on Thursday morning, marking the latest in a series of deadly fires across Maryland, officials said.

According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, firefighters from LaVale Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding agencies responded to a home on the unit block of Asbury Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the roof and later discovered one deceased victim inside.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or details on what may have caused the fire. The scene remains under active investigation.

This incident follows two other fatal fires in the state, including a double fatality in Harford County earlier this morning and another in Anne Arundel County last night.
