NEW YORK — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took custody of a convicted rapist and Mexican national upon his release from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, officials said.
Alejandro Salazar, 44, was apprehended on February 21 after serving a 15-year sentence for first-degree rape. Salazar had entered the U.S. illegally in 1995 and was convicted in New York County Supreme Court in 2012. ICE had lodged an immigration detainer with state corrections officials in 2013, and an immigration judge ordered his removal that same year.
Authorities transferred Salazar to ICE custody upon his release, and he is now being held at Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, awaiting deportation to Mexico.
