Security guard arrested for deadly shooting of Maryland homeless man

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — A security guard has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting Saturday night in Prince George’s County, police said.

Murwanashyaka Francois, 54, of Gaithersburg, is accused of shooting and killing 45-year-old Ricardo Clemons Jr., who had no fixed address, during an altercation inside a business on the 2300 block of University Boulevard.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 8:25 p.m. on March 1, 2025, and found Clemons suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, Francois, who was working as a security guard, shot Clemons during the dispute. The circumstances leading up to the altercation remain under investigation.

Francois is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections, facing charges of second-degree murder and related offenses.
