Killer’s confession led police to the grim discovery of his wife’s body inside their home

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A 60-year-old East Brunswick man has been charged with murder after walking into the police department and reporting that he killed his wife, authorities said.

Ashraf Tawfik entered the East Brunswick Police Department at 12:14 p.m. on February 28 and told officers he had committed the crime, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco. Officers went to his home on Yorktown Road, where they found Marsail Botros, 58, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tawfik was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center while awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing.
