Barnegat Junior Police Academy returning in July for 5th and 6th graders

BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Barnegat Township Police Department has announced the return of its Junior Police Academy, set to begin on July 7, 2025, for students entering 5th or 6th grade in the upcoming school year.

Designed as an educational experience rather than a disciplinary program, the academy provides participants with insight into law enforcement through physical training, drills, and interactive demonstrations. Topics covered will include the department’s history, criminal investigations, gangs, SWAT, motor vehicle stops, and defensive tactics.

The program runs daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is limited to 40 students. Applications for Phase 1 can be completed online at barnegatpolice.us/jrpolice and must be submitted by May 1, 2025. Students who are accepted will be required to pay a $75 fee for uniforms and equipment, with Phase 2 applications due by May 19, 2025.

Police officials encourage interested students and parents to apply early due to limited availability.
