New Jersey Could Soon Have License Plates for Marine Corps Combat Veterans

TRENTON, NJ — A bipartisan bill that would allow Marines to obtain special commemorative license plates recognizing their combat service has cleared the Senate Transportation Committee, Senator Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) announced Monday.

Under current law, only recipients of the Combat Infantryman Badge—an honor exclusive to Army personnel—are eligible for combat-designated license plates. Bucco’s bill, S-2911, seeks to amend this by extending eligibility to Marines who have been awarded the Combat Action Ribbon.

“Our combat veterans have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation, and it is only right that we ensure they receive the recognition they deserve,” Bucco said. “Currently, Marines are unintentionally excluded from obtaining special license plates that honor their combat service. This bill would correct this oversight.”

The measure now moves forward for further legislative consideration.

Key Points:

  • The bill, S-2911, would allow Marines awarded the Combat Action Ribbon to obtain commemorative license plates.
  • Current law only permits Army recipients of the Combat Infantryman Badge to receive such plates.
  • The legislation passed the Senate Transportation Committee and awaits further action.
