GAITHERSBURG, MD — A 14-year-old is in custody following an attempted strong-arm robbery and assault involving another juvenile Thursday evening in the Glenmont area, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

Officers responded at approximately 6:35 p.m. on March 20 to the McDonald’s in the 12300 block of Georgia Avenue after receiving reports of a physical altercation. Upon arrival, police observed two juveniles fighting behind the restaurant’s counter.

Investigators determined that the incident began on a Ride-On bus, where the 14-year-old suspect allegedly demanded personal belongings from a 15-year-old passenger. When the victim exited the bus and fled into the nearby McDonald’s for help, the suspect followed and assaulted him while continuing to demand property.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene and taken to the 4th District Station, where he was charged with attempted robbery and assault. He was referred to the Department of Juvenile Services and later released to the custody of guardians.
