Norfolk woman wins $383K lottery jackpot after online ticket surprise

NORFOLK, VA — A Norfolk woman is now $383,307 richer after discovering she had matched all five numbers in the February 28 Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing — a win she initially doubted was real.

Geraldine Davis-Hines said she didn’t react right away after receiving several emails from the Virginia Lottery informing her of the win. The ticket, which she purchased online through the Lottery’s website, matched the winning numbers: 9-17-32-40-45.

By selecting the numbers at random, Davis-Hines secured the entire rolling jackpot, which had climbed to more than $383,000. The odds of hitting all five numbers in the Cash 5 with EZ Match game are 1 in 1,221,759.

Players in Virginia can buy tickets for games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, Pick 4, Pick 5, and Cash 5 with EZ Match through the Virginia Lottery app or website. All participants must be at least 18 years old and physically located in the state.

Proceeds from the Virginia Lottery support K-12 education. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery generated over $934 million for public schools, including more than $36.5 million directed to Norfolk.
