MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A large-scale law enforcement training exercise will take place Thursday in Cape May County, prompting a significant police presence near the Cape May County Park & Zoo.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced that the drill will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township. The exercise is part of an effort by the Cape May County Child Abduction Response Team (CART) to achieve national certification.

CART is collaborating with federal, state, and local agencies to conduct the simulation, which officials described as a critical step in enhancing the county’s response to child abductions.

The Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that while the training will involve a high concentration of law enforcement personnel and vehicles, the public should not be alarmed. “There is no reason to be alarmed,” the notice stated.

Officials also acknowledged potential concerns from residents and visitors due to the increased activity around the zoo and park. “We appreciate your patience and understanding,” the statement read.

According to the announcement, the training underscores CART’s mission to protect children in the community and to respond effectively to cases involving missing or endangered minors.

The county said the initiative reflects an ongoing commitment to meet national standards in child abduction emergency response.
