JACKSON, NJ — A 12-year-old Border Collie mix named Tommy is urgently in need of rescue after the recent death of his owner left him without a home, according to a post by Friends of the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility.

Key Points

  • 12-year-old dog returned to shelter after owner’s death
  • Shelter seeking 501(c)(3) rescue to place Tommy in a permanent home
  • Dog is housebroken, gentle, and has passed all behavioral assessments

Tommy has spent months in and out of the shelter due to his late owner’s prolonged illness. With no one left to care for him, the senior dog has now returned to the facility permanently, where staff say he urgently needs a quiet, loving home.

Described as affectionate and calm, Tommy has passed all behavioral assessments and shows no signs of resource guarding. Shelter staff noted he enjoys squeaky toys, is housebroken, and walks well on a leash. Due to his age, he has some visible health concerns, including lumps and possible kidney issues.

Staff appeals to rescues for urgent placement

The shelter emphasized that Tommy would do best as the only pet in a low-stress environment. They are currently seeking assistance from an official 501(c)(3) rescue organization that can help rehome him.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the facility directly at kathleenfrett1@gmail.com.
