NEW YORK — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested an Ecuadoran national with a violent criminal record in New York City on April 6 as part of a weeklong immigration enforcement operation targeting criminal offenders.
Alexander Steven Jimbo-Perez, 25, an illegally present Ecuadoran national, was apprehended by ICE’s New York office during a series of arrests focusing on dangerous individuals in the region. His criminal history includes multiple prior arrests for serious offenses.
Authorities said Jimbo-Perez has been arrested for assault with intent to cause physical injury, acting in a manner to injure a child under the age of 17, criminal possession of stolen property, and harassment involving physical contact.
His arrest was among 206 carried out during the April 6–12 enhanced operation coordinated by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and federal partners including the FBI, DEA, and U.S. Marshals Service.
ICE officials said individuals like Jimbo-Perez pose a risk to public safety and often remain in local communities due to non-cooperation from jurisdictions that decline to honor immigration detainers.
Operation targets high-risk offenders
“This enhanced enforcement operation focused on the most dangerous alien offenders,” said acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons, who called the effort essential to public safety.
Jimbo-Perez is currently in federal custody and pending further immigration proceedings. ICE has not released further details regarding the timing or location of any possible removal from the U.S.
