Sixteen hour police standoff continues on West Street

UTICA, N.Y. — A standoff between police and a barricaded individual has been unfolding for over 16 hours on the 1000 block of West Street, the Utica Police Department announced Thursday morning.

Authorities reported that the situation began around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, prompting an immediate police response. Officers remain at the scene as negotiations continue with the unidentified individual.

No injuries have been reported and there is no confirmation on whether others are inside the residence. The police have not released details regarding what prompted the standoff or the identity of the subject involved.

“The Utica Police Department has been on scene of a barricaded individual on the 1000 block of West St since approximately 6:30PM yesterday evening,” the department stated in a Facebook update posted Thursday morning.

Officials are urging residents to avoid the area as a safety precaution. Police have not indicated when they expect the situation to conclude.
