NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — A 57-year-old man remains hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident late Wednesday night in North Tonawanda, according to a police press release.

The North Tonawanda Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Payne Avenue around 10 p.m. on April 17 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. While officers were en route, dispatchers received additional information that the vehicle involved had fled the scene.

First responders from the North Tonawanda Fire Department provided medical aid to the victim, who was later transported to ECMC for treatment of serious injuries. Police said the man remains under medical care.

Detectives from the North Tonawanda Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team processed the scene. The next day, April 18, authorities located the suspect vehicle and the driver believed to be involved.

“The driver is cooperating with the investigation, which is still ongoing,” the department stated in the release issued by Captain Daryl Truty.

Investigation continues

Police have not released the name of the driver or any additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation remains active, and no charges have been announced.
