Four teens arrested in brutal gang assault on elderly man in Manhattan

NEW YORK, NY — Four teenage boys have been arrested and charged in connection with a gang assault on a 65-year-old man earlier this week on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the NYPD announced Friday.

The suspects — a 13-year-old and three 14-year-olds — were taken into custody on April 25, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m. within the confines of the 19th Precinct. Each faces charges of second-degree gang assault and second-degree assault.

Attack took place near Park Avenue and East 84th Street

According to police, the attack occurred on Tuesday, April 22, around 8:03 p.m. when five unidentified individuals approached the victim at the intersection of Park Avenue and East 84th Street. A verbal dispute escalated when one of the attackers struck the man with a bookbag and punched him, causing him to fall to the ground.

The victim sustained injuries to his face and knee but declined medical treatment at the scene. The group fled on foot immediately after the assault.

Search continues for additional suspects

The NYPD is continuing to seek the public’s help to identify and locate the remaining individuals involved in the assault. Surveillance images of the suspects have been released as part of the ongoing investigation.
