Man shot multiple times on Philadelphia road dies at hospital, suspect in custody

A 37-year-old man was fatally shot on a Philadelphia highway Thursday evening, prompting an active homicide investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. in the city’s 19th District, near the 900 block of North 66th Street.

Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 6:58 p.m. and found the victim, described as a Black male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds across his body. Officers transported the victim to Lankenau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, pending family notification. The area surrounding the shooting was secured by officers as a crime scene shortly after their arrival.

“A male is currently in custody as part of the ongoing investigation,” the department stated. Officials have not disclosed the identity of the individual detained or the nature of his connection to the incident.
