WASHINGTON, DC — President Donald Trump announced Thursday that Fox News host Jeanine Pirro will serve as the interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, naming the former judge and television host to the high-profile federal post in a statement shared on social media.
Pirro, a former Westchester County District Attorney and Fox News host, would be the first high-profile television figure appointed to lead the D.C. office in recent memory.
Her appointment, if finalized, would place her at the helm of a key prosecutorial office with jurisdiction over federal crimes and public corruption in the nation’s capital.
“Jeanine was Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, New York, and then went on to serve as County Judge, and District Attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to those positions,” Trump said in the announcement posted to his Truth Social account. “She is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York.”
Pirro’s legal career includes the establishment of the first Domestic Violence Bureau in the nation while serving as DA in Westchester County. Following her public service career, she transitioned to television, hosting Justice with Judge Jeanine for a decade on Fox News, and currently serves as a co-host of The Five.
