SMYRNA, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday on Clayton Avenue, leaving a 34-year-old woman hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers responded to the 800 block of Clayton Avenue at approximately 4:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire at a residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an unknown suspect had fired multiple shots into an occupied home.
One of the rounds struck a woman inside the house. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, police said.
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect or the type of firearm used in the shooting. The motive remains unclear, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Detectives from Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit are continuing to examine the scene and collect evidence.
State police request public assistance
Investigators are seeking help from the public to identify the shooter or gather any additional information relevant to the case.
