Armed carjackers strike near Nationals Park, two teens cuffed

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A midday carjacking near the Navy Yard ended with two teenage suspects in custody after the stolen vehicle was recovered less than 24 hours later, police said Sunday.

The incident occurred just after noon on Friday, May 9, in the 1200 block of 4th Street SE. The victim was exiting their vehicle when two suspects approached. One brandished a handgun and demanded the car keys before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle.

On Saturday, May 10, officers from the Sixth District and MPD’s Robbery Suppression Unit located the vehicle and arrested two juvenile males. A firearm was recovered during the operation.

A 15-year-old male from Southeast D.C. has been charged with Armed Carjacking, while a 14-year-old male from Glenarden, Maryland, was charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.

Surveillance images released as two suspects remain at large

Investigators have released surveillance images of two additional suspects believed to be involved in the carjacking. Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.

The investigation remains active, and a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
