UTICA, N.Y. — A 33-year-old Utica man has been charged in connection with the theft of a skid steer from a storage facility last month, after investigators traced the stolen equipment through social media posts.
On April 8, police units responded to the 1700 block of Genesee Street after a report that a skid steer had been stolen from a secured location. The victim told officers that an unknown suspect had broken into the storage facility and removed the machinery.
The case was assigned to a detective from the Criminal Investigations Division. During the course of the investigation, multiple social media posts were discovered advertising the stolen equipment for sale.
Investigators were able to trace the sale post to the individual in possession of the skid steer and determine how it was obtained. That information led to the identity of the person who originally provided the equipment.
On Tuesday, May 13, Mersad Dolic, 33, of Utica, was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree and grand larceny in the third degree.
