BALTIMORE, MD — Maryland State Police announced troopers will be out in force this weekend to crack down on illegal large-scale exhibition driving events across the Maryland National Capital and Baltimore regions.
Known as “takeovers,” these events often block public roads, endanger public safety, disrupt traffic, and cause property damage, authorities said. The effort is part of a coordinated safety initiative by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force.
Multiple agencies are participating in the crackdown, including the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and police departments from Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties, as well as Baltimore City.
“This collaborative effort involves various law enforcement agencies,” Maryland State Police said in a statement posted to social media Friday.
Officials said the goal is to reduce the risks these gatherings pose to both drivers and surrounding communities.
