Officer rescues ducklings trapped in storm drain in Monroe Township

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Several ducklings were safely rescued from a storm drain this week thanks to quick action by a local police officer, according to the Monroe Township Police Department.

The department said Officer Diaz responded to a report of ducklings trapped in a storm drain in the township, located in Middlesex County. Upon arrival, Diaz was able to recover the birds and ensure their safety.

The ducklings were transported to a nearby wildlife rehabilitation center following the rescue. Officials confirmed the animals are in good condition.

“Thanks to his quick actions, they were safely recovered and brought to a local wildlife rehabilitation center,” the department posted on social media. “We’re happy to report they’re doing just ducky.”

The department also reminded residents to be alert for wildlife activity as spring brings an increase in animal movement throughout the township.

Police urge caution as wildlife becomes more active

Officers noted that turtles, geese, and ducks are frequently seen on roads or near storm drains during warmer months, and they advised drivers to slow down and remain cautious in areas with high animal activity.

Monroe Township Police encouraged the public to call if they spot animals in distress, stating, “We’re always happy to lend a wing.”
