Armed robbers hit DC streets in early morning rampage

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two suspects are being sought in connection with a pair of armed crimes that occurred hours apart earlier this month in the District, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

On Sunday, May 4, at approximately 3:25 a.m., officers from the Third District responded to the 1900 block of 12th Street NW for a report of an armed carjacking. Police said the suspects approached the victim inside a vehicle, struck them with a handgun, then stole the car and fled the scene.

Later that same morning, around 6:05 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to a robbery in the 1600 block of Benning Road NE. Investigators said the same suspects approached a second victim, brandished a handgun, and demanded money before fleeing on foot with stolen property.

The suspects were captured on surveillance footage. Police have released images and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the individuals involved.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information should contact police at (202) 727-9099 or text tips anonymously to 50411.
