Mikie Sherrill warns of Trump-backed ‘MAGA’ push in New Jersey in new campaign ad targeting Ciattarelli
MORRISTOWN, N.J. — Jack Ciattarelli has New Jersey’s Democrats running for governor worried. Ciattarelli, the clear frontrunner in the race, according to multiple polls, was endorsed by President Donald Trump, and that is sending the Democrat frontrunner, Mikie Sherrill into a tailspin.
Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill released a new campaign ad Thursday warning New Jersey voters of growing “MAGA” influence in the state, focusing on President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli.
The 30-second spot, titled “MAGA’s Coming for New Jersey,” frames Ciattarelli as fully aligned with Trump’s political agenda. “Trump brags Chittarelli is now 100% MAGA,” the ad claims, referencing the former president’s public endorsement.
Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and federal prosecutor, positions herself in the ad as a moderate Democrat focused on economic relief, stating she has “a plan to drive down costs so families can get ahead,” including measures against landlords accused of price gouging.
The ad also highlights her political track record, noting her previous victory over a longtime Republican incumbent as evidence of her ability to win in competitive districts.
Ad marks early escalation in campaign messaging
The release signals an early intensification in campaign messaging ahead of the general election, with both parties aiming to mobilize their bases. Sherrill’s ad closes with an emphasis on “courage to fight, strength to win,” aiming to frame the race as a battle against the expansion of Trump-aligned politics in New Jersey.
