Cape May lifeguards on duty at 10 beaches for Memorial Day weekend

CAPE MAY, N.J. — Cape May Beach Patrol will station lifeguards at 10 designated beaches from Saturday through Monday for the Memorial Day weekend, marking the unofficial start of summer at the Jersey Shore.

The guarded beaches include Poverty, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Queen, Howard, Ocean, Steger’s, Grant, 1st Avenue, and Cove, according to an announcement shared by Cape May officials.

Beachgoers are reminded to swim only at protected beaches during posted lifeguard hours. “Always remember to swim near a lifeguard,” officials advised in the notice.

The seasonal announcement is part of ongoing efforts to promote safety during the busy holiday period, which typically draws large crowds to the shore.

Lifeguard staffing will expand to additional beaches as the summer progresses and more seasonal personnel are deployed.
