NYC DOE employee arrested in Brooklyn on assault and child endangerment charges

BROOKLYN, NY — A 47-year-old off-duty employee of the New York City Department of Education was arrested Thursday evening and charged with multiple offenses, including assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

The arrest occurred at approximately 5:47 p.m. within the confines of the 72nd Precinct, which covers areas of Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace. The individual, identified as Yan Chen, faces seven charges stemming from an undisclosed incident.

Chen was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree menacing, and second-degree harassment.

Police have not released further details about the alleged incident or the circumstances leading to the arrest. It is also unclear whether the charges are connected to her role within the Department of Education.

The Department of Education has not issued a public statement regarding the arrest as of Friday morning.
