PROVIDENCE, R.I. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a Honduran national in Providence on March 11 who is facing charges related to child trafficking and indecent solicitation of a minor, the agency announced Tuesday.

Vivian Gisselle Soriano-Neto was taken into custody by ICE’s Boston Field Office in coordination with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Local authorities had previously charged her with two counts of indecent solicitation of a child and trafficking of a minor following a February 20 arrest by the Providence Police Department.

“Vivian Gisselle Soriano-Neto apparently trafficked a child for nefarious reasons,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting field office director for ICE Boston. “Anyone who would do them harm represents a significant threat to our community.”

History of illegal entry and pending removal

Soriano initially entered the U.S. unlawfully through the Calexico, California, Port of Entry on October 25, 2017, and was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. She was transferred to ICE custody and later released on parole on November 17, 2017, after receiving a notice to appear before an immigration judge.

She now remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings, as the immigration case and criminal charges proceed in parallel.
