Woman pepper-sprayed and robbed at Dover bus stop, police say

DOVER, DE — A 53-year-old woman was pepper-sprayed and robbed Saturday evening while waiting at a bus stop on the 800 block of White Oak Road, according to the Dover Police Department.

Officers responded to a call at approximately 6:42 p.m. and found the victim suffering from the effects of pepper spray. She told police she had been sitting at the bus stop when she was approached by a thin white female, who started a verbal altercation.

During the argument, the suspect allegedly sprayed the woman with pepper spray, grabbed her purse, and fled the scene on foot. Authorities said the suspect was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants.

The victim was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for medical treatment. Her current condition has not been released, but police confirmed she was alert and able to speak with investigators at the scene.

“The Dover Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred Saturday evening on White Oak Road,” said Master Corporal Ryan Schmid, Public Information Officer.

Investigation ongoing as police seek suspect

As of Monday, no arrests had been made and the suspect remains unidentified. Detectives are canvassing the area for surveillance footage and potential witnesses.
