21-year-old man fatally shot in Chelsea assault

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 21-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, according to police.

Officers from the NYPD’s 10th Precinct and Public Service Area 4 responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress around 9:19 p.m. in front of 431 West 17th Street.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified as Raqiese Cohen, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck.

EMS transported Cohen to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigation remains active

There have been no arrests, and police say the investigation is ongoing.

No information has been released regarding possible suspects or a motive.
