Migrant weapon and DUI conviction taken into ICE custody in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Salvadoran national previously convicted of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Wednesday, federal officials said.

ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations Baltimore office announced the arrest of Denis Medrano Garcia, who was apprehended June 5 while allegedly carrying a large knife equipped with brass knuckles. Officials described the weapon as a “dangerous” item and cited public safety concerns.

Garcia had already been issued a final order of removal before Wednesday’s arrest. ICE did not release details about the location or circumstances of the arrest but confirmed that he is currently in immigration custody.

According to ICE, the removal operation was carried out as part of its efforts to prioritize individuals with criminal histories who pose potential threats to public safety. “ICE… removed a dangerous offender from our streets,” the agency’s Baltimore office posted on X.

No further charges related to the weapon were announced as of Friday, and ICE did not indicate when Garcia is expected to be deported.
