PHILADELPHIA — A 60-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday after being struck by a speeding SUV on North Broad Street, police said.
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 25th District responded to reports of a pedestrian struck at approximately 12:44 a.m. on the 2700 block of North Broad Street. According to investigators, a dark SUV was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it struck the victim, who was attempting to cross from the east side to the west side of the street against a red light.
After hitting the man, the vehicle fled the scene, continuing north on Broad Street. Medics from the Philadelphia Fire Department transported the victim to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m.
Police identify vehicle
In a major development later that day, officers located the vehicle involved in the crash. At approximately 3:00 p.m., police found a black Chevrolet Equinox on the 2000 block of Beach Street.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains active and is being led by the Crash Investigation Division. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim pending family notification.
Police have not yet announced any arrests or identified the driver of the SUV involved in the hit-and-run.
