Alleged gunman found months after Benning Road shooting

Quick Arrest Made in Northwest D.C. Robbery Attempt WASHINGTON, DC - Following a Northwest robbery attempt, D.C. Metro Police Department’s Third District detectives have swiftly apprehended a suspect. The incident occurred today around 2:53 PM, in the 1200 block of W Street, Northwest. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lenare Leath, Jr. of Northwest D.C., allegedly brandished a knife and pushed the victim to the ground in an attempt to steal their property. After a struggle, the suspect fled empty-handed but was quickly caught by responding officers. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man wanted in connection with a daytime shooting on Benning Road last December has been arrested by federal and local authorities.

The incident happened on Monday, December 16 around 1:39 p.m., when a man was shot in the 1500 block of Benning Road NE. He was found conscious and breathing with a gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, June 16, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 22-year-old Kyre Robinson of Southeast D.C. He has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).

The arrest followed months of investigation and the issuance of a DC Superior Court warrant.

Arrest made in months-old Northeast shooting

Investigators have not released further details about what led to the shooting or whether Robinson and the victim knew each other. The case remains open and under review by the Fifth District.
