Lottery rule-breaker bags $100K in Maryland

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A Washington County man who usually caps his scratch-off spending at $20 decided to splurge — and walked away with a $100,000 win on the $5,000,000 Fortune game.

The retired county employee purchased two of the $50 tickets at Wooden Keg Liquors, located at 20219 Jefferson Boulevard in Hagerstown, after deciding to break his self-imposed rule. “The most I usually spend on a scratch-off is $20, but I decided to splurge,” he said while claiming the prize on June 16.

He said he always buys two tickets of the same game. After winning back his money on the first ticket, he began scratching the second at home and saw the prizes pile up. “I kept uncovering $5,000 matches. There were so many of them,” he said. The total climbed to $100,000.

The experience, he added, was emotional. The win not only covered his retirement concerns but left enough to share.

$5,000,000 Fortune game still has top prizes unclaimed

The $5,000,000 Fortune ticket launched in February and costs $50. All three of the game’s $5 million top prizes remain unclaimed. As of now, six $100,000 second-tier prizes and eight $50,000 third-tier prizes are also still available.
