PHILADELPHIA — Authorities are searching for a 22-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of Derwin Matthews, who was killed earlier this month in Center City, Philadelphia police announced.

On Monday, June 2, at approximately 2:39 a.m., officers from the 9th District responded to a report of a person with a gun on the 200 block of South Camac Street. Upon arrival, police found 31-year-old Derwin Matthews lying on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Matthews was transported by police to Jefferson Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m.

Following an investigation by the Homicide Unit, two individuals have been identified as suspects in the homicide. The Philadelphia Police Department is now seeking the public’s help in locating one of the fugitives.

Police identify 22-year-old suspect in Camac Street killing

Nysheem Hinson-Rakley, 22, has been named as a suspect. His last known address is on the 900 block of Parrish Street, according to police.

Details regarding the second suspect have not yet been released. Authorities have not commented on a motive or whether the victim and suspects were known to each other.

Anyone with information on Hinson-Rakley’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
